We love a good Zicam lozenge. Our doting mothers always ask us if we’re taking Zicam every time we say we might be coming down with something. Every. Time.
Suffice it to say, we are familiar with the brand, and the lozenge. We think highly of it! So we thought it would be fun to try Zicam’s gummies.
But first, let’s talk about ’em a little.
The primary ingredients in Zicam’s famous lozenges are Zincum aceticum and Zincum gluconicum, which are fancy-sounding homeopathic names for Zinc. It’s exactly the same thing, and they work the same way.1
The deal with Zinc
While Zinc is an essential trace mineral for many important bodily functions, one of its primary and most lauded benefits is its critical role in immune health. Essentially, it helps regulate immune responses, and having a deficiency in Zinc is no bueno for the body.2
But why homeopathy? Why not just get your Zinc in your multi? Well, homeopathy is a medical belief system that believes trace amounts of minerals are more effective, because they stimulate your body’s own ability to fight illness.
This is why taking homeopathic remedies like Zicam purportedly work: your immune system gets a jolt of essential immune support as soon as it is compromised.
What we also learned in our Zinc v. Zincum study is that the salt formations of homeopathic zinc, like zincum gluconicum, is a safer way for your body to ingest it, particularly in older individuals, who are perhaps on multiple medications and are more at risk for contraindications.3
The deal with Zicam
The internet can be a contentious place when it comes to strong opinions, and we’ve noticed Zicam’s propriety Cold Remedy blends are not exempt. Zicam can be quite polarizing, mostly due to the ongoing debate about its efficacy and claims.
But here in the Gummy Galaxy, we consider subtle and gentle modes of healing an important ingredient in the cocktail of overall wellness, and are always looking for ways to support our body’s ability to maintain its own health.
And anecdotally, after years of personal use, we can attest that these have worked for us. Of course, there is a faction of the internet that claims these are useless, but don’t knock it till you try it! That’s our gummy motto, anyway. Our lives are healthier and more delicious for our willingness to explore.
Ok, so, like we mentioned above, we love Zicam’s melty, citrus tablets. But once we saw they were also foraying into the gummy galaxy, we had to give them a try. Plus, with all the Elderberry gummies on the market, these gummies seemed like a good way to incorporate that juicy ingredient, too (aka “Sambucus Nigra 4x” if you’re purusing the Zicam label).
Tasting Notes
These were not what we were expecting! These actually taste like Vicks VapoRub. If you are a Zicam fan and are accustomed to the citrus tablets, these may not be for you. But if you like eating gummies AND having your entire throat coated in menthol, have at it!
These are also definitely some of the more affordable immune gummies we’ve come across. Check ’em out on Amazon.
If you’re not a fan of menthol, we understand. The citrus rapidmelt lozenges are always here for you.
