Turmeric is the upside and the downside of these potent anti-inflammation gummies

Overall

In general, we love Megafood and their organic, non-GMO, vegan gummies with great ingredients. But the taste is pretty overwhelming, and ultimately the gummies lose us with the over-the-top mouthfeel and lingering yellow tongues.

Effectiveness

These are loaded with anti-inflammatory hits like Ginger and Turmeric, as well as carrots for a dash phytonutrients and black pepper for maximum absorption.

Tastiness

Turmeric! These linger on the tongue too long, both in sensation and yellow color. Combined with the black pepper, it's a bit too much and kinda makes your tongue feel numb.

Bang For Buck

For the quality and brand, these are a great price. That's the biggest appeal of these: accessible and affordable for a hefty amount of turmeric.

Turmeric is pretty much inescapable these days. From lattes to supplements, we are all trying to just get a little less inflamed. This storied and potent anti-inflammatory even works in your stir fry! (Some recently wound up in the ginger pile at our local co-op and it was quite the happy accident. It worked like a charm.)

So, we love turmeric. Which is why we wish we loved this one just a little bit more than we do.

Like all of us, we’re not getting any younger over here, so between long stretches in front of computer screens, working out and scoliosis, sore joints and sore backs are pretty commonplace. We are definitely where one night of sleeping funny feels like we fell out of a building, so enter Turmeric Life.

What’s Inside?

Turmeric. Lots of it.

In the recommended 2 gummy serving, these contain both 75 mg of organic Turmeric Root, and 130 mg of Organic Turmeric Root Extract (which is equivalent to 75 mg of curcuminoids). The active molecules in turmeric are curcuminoids and these are the molecules known for aiding the bodies natural inflammatory response.

These gummies don’t just have Turmeric though! They are packed with a host of other ingredients that work in concert to keep the inflation away! Ginger (also great in a stir fry!) to support a healthy inflammation response.

Black pepper extract makes an appearance in the form of 5 mg. Black pepper is crucial to keep in mind when taking turmeric, because it’s not always bioavailable for its maximum benefits when you consume it as a spice. The bloodstream doesn’t absorb curcumin all that great. But Black Pepper contains Piperine, which enhances the absorption of Curcumins. The more you know! 💫

For good measure, there’s also 50 mg organic carrot. Along with ginger, the carrot is a great and natural source of phytonutrients.

(We get that this is now a recurring theme here, but all of these things go great in a stir fry.)

Tasting Notes

These are potent. We won’t deny they are heavy on the turmeric. In fact, they kinda make your tongue feel numb. Sadly we feel like that’s where we really noticed the gummies for the most part: in our mouths. And because of the additional black pepper, they have the overwhelming sense of heat and spiciness that, as much as we like it in food, gives a bit of an unpleasant sensation in a gummy.

They also coat your tongue yellow for quite awhile. We know Megafood goes for big, bold flavor always, but this went maybe a little too bold.

Final Thoughts

Honestly, we might prefer some chopped turmeric in the aforementioned stir fry or in a golden oatmilk latte over pounding these day in and day out. They’re just a little intense in the mouth, and we don’t notice the effects as much as we do with some other Turmeric supplements.

When it comes to supplements, we prefer the turmeric collagen chews by Neocell, which has less turmeric extract (at 50 mg), but also give you a dose of Collagen 2, which is fantastic for joints. However, as noted in our collagen blog, collagen is not vegan! It is always animal derived. Megafood Turmeric Spice gummies are vegan, organic and non-GMO, which is always preferable in our book.

So on that note, we ultimately will always spring for Charlottes’ Web Recovery Gummies.  They don’t pack as much Turmeric as these Megafood ones do, but with the glorious CBD (and a helping of ginger, too!), you won’t even notice.

The giant tropical beach on this oversized bottle is a metaphor for the tsunami of ocean-sized CALM that’s about to hit you. We are zealous about magnesium in the Gummy Galaxy, particularly this magnesium lactate!  But we cannot refuse any gummy, and we were excited to bring Natural Vitality’s magnesium into our lives. Why magnesium? […]

We love Neocell and have taken their products in liquid, powder and (the much tastier) chewable form. We consider these pineapple chews to be a delightful gummy cousin. Certainly a parallel universe. The chews are delicious, and almost give you that total gummy satisfaction.

CBD + Turmeric? This is a dream pairing, and we can’t stop obsessing over these. If there was a gummy equivalent of a bubble bath this would be it.
