Right on the heels of Goli announcing their new Supergreens gummy, OG Greens Gummy purveyor 8Greens just announced their new gummy… and it’s a beauty gummy!
As if greens weren’t enough to give you that glow from the inside out, this greens gummy is packed with skin showstoppers Biotin, Collagen and Hyaluronic Acid.
A note on the website from 8greens founder states that these gummies were inspired by how many compliments she gets on her skin. If you haven’t taken a gander, their founder Dawn is a total glowing skin stunner, so indeed: we’ll have what she’s having.
The Goods
So, in addition to the greens, these Skin gummies include some ingredients that are classics in the beauty gummy repertoire.
First we have skin hydrator Hyaluronic Acid. Now, we love this buzzy ingredient and it’s in everything from supplements to topicals. There’s not a ton of it here. There’s only 31 milligrams, as opposed to Hum’s juicier Skin Gummy Glow Sweet Glow, which has 120 mg.
Next we have Biotin, and there’s a ton of biotin in here: 2300 micrograms to be precise.
We recently explored biotin in our Mysteries of SugarBearHair blog, since this is the go-to Beauty Ingredient. To sum it up: there’s not a ton of evidence that biotin does much of anything, unless you’re biotin-deficient. We haven’t noticed a ton of results with Biotin supplements, unless it was Hum’s Hair Sweet Hair.
But the third go-to beauty booster, Collagen – wowza! Collagen works like dynamite for us. And there’s a good reason for why it works: we produce less collagen as we get older, so supplementing that actually does make a difference in the body!
If you haven’t read much about collagen before, it is definitely worth looking into. We have a handy guide right here!
These 8greens gummies contain 55 mg of Bovine Collagen, which is…not much. For comparison, Olly’s Collagen Peach Rings have 2500 mg of collagen! (And those Olly peach rings worked like gangbusters on us–improved skin elasticity, nails firm AF!)
So, you don’t have to be a math genius (we sure aren’t) to see that’s a really significant difference.
In general our typical go-to is Neocell’s Beauty Bursts which contain 2,000 mg of collagen. Basically, when the collagen milligrams are numbered in the thousands, we really notice a difference. When the amount of collagen is low, it doesn’t do much: we still get nail breakage, and the difference in our skin tone is minimal.
But collagen aside, there’s a lot of other stuff happening in these gummies!
The Greens
What makes this a unique beauty gummy is that it’s just so darn healthy. How can we be mad about getting allllll these greens.
8Greens includes a 110 mg Proprietary Blend (Proprietary Blend = We don’t know the exact amount of any individual ingredient!). But there is a ton of the dark, leafy stuff that your body craves.
Behold:
Organic Broccoli
Organic Kale
Organic Spinach
Organic Collard Greens
Organic Alfalfa
Organic Matcha Green Tea
Organic Aloe Vera
Peppermint Leaf
In addition, there are small amounts of Vitamins A, C and E.
Thoughts
These come in a Strawberry flavor (from “real” strawberries), so we’re hoping they have that mouth-watering fresh-picked goodness.
We already ordered ours and can’t wait to see how they do! We’re a little apprehensive that these won’t be as effective as some of the other collagen wonders in our life, but we don’t mind a Greens Gummy with a little Beauty Bonus, which is how we’re already framing this in our mind. Low expectations means you’ll never be disappointed, right?
As an aside, we did love their original 8greens gummies (delicious, if not a bit sweet). Overall though, we found the price tag a bit much.
We have noticed that the price has really come down–and these Skin gummies are very affordable, too. But the gummy count per bottle dropped off a fair amount as well, so when you think of the price and the count being slashed in half, it’s actually about exactly the same.
We’ll update this ASAP when we have our official results in! 💅
